Unboxing the Digital Piano:

The excitement begins with the arrival of the package of my new Donner DDP-60. The digital piano arrived in a well-protected box, clearly labeled with the brand and model. As I carefully opened the box, I found each component neatly packed and secured.

What’s Inside the Box:

  • The main body of the digital piano

  • 4 retro looking metal legs w/screws

  • 3-Pedal unit

  • Donner music stand

  • Power adapter and cables

  • User manual and assembly instructions

The packaging was impressive, ensuring that each part arrived in perfect condition.

Step-by-Step Assembly Guide:

Now, let’s move on to the assembly. Here’s a detailed guide to help you set up your digital piano.

1. Gather Your Tools and Parts: Before you start, make sure you have all the parts laid out and the necessary tools ready. You’ll need a screwdriver.

2. Assembling the Stand:

  • To attach the legs, I turned my piano upside down and rested it upon the styrofoam packaging that it came with.

  • Secure the screws tightly.

  • Flip the piano over onto its legs.

3. Connecting the Power and Cables:

  • Plug in the power adapter to the backside of the piano.

  • Connect the 3-Pedal unit to the MIDI port on the underside of the piano

This is extremely simple to set up and start playing right away!

First Power-Up and Initial Setup:

With everything assembled, it’s time for the moment of truth: powering up the digital piano for the first time. As I pressed the power button, the piano came to life, and I was greeted with a warm, rich sound.

First Impressions:

Here are my initial thoughts on the digital piano:

Build Quality and Design: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

  • The piano has a sleek, modern design that fits well in my space. It’s modern however, it’s also retro 60s-looking. 60s Mod-style perhaps

  • The stand is very sturdy and more stable than most keyboard stands. That’s important for providing a solid playing experience.

Sound Quality: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

  • The sound quality is impressive. There are two speakers on the underside of the cabinet which allow for a well-rounded sound.

Playability: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

  • The Donner DDP-60 has semi-weighted keys. They offer more resistance than keyboard keys but not as weighted as an acoustic piano. This is a great piano for a beginner who needs to get a feel for the instrument before fully-weighted keys.

  • There is a faux wood printed texture on the keys. It adds to the retro Mod-60s look and it also adds to the “grip” factor on the keys (even though acoustic pianos do not have wood grain on the keys; there are plastic veneers).

Value: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

  • Economical. For the price, you get a sturdy instrument with many features. Great value!

I tried a few of the 127 instruments available.

To select an instrument, first press and hold “TONE/DEMO/RHYTHM” button and press a key in the highest octave. This activates the select instruments mode.

Then to select the instrument, press and hold “FUNCTION” and use the number keys: bass B = 1, bass C = 2 . . . mid D = 0

I want to test out some of the most common keyboard sounds used for a pianist: Piano, Harpsichord, Organ, Celesta, and Glockenspiel. All of the instruments are a good representation of the sounds, however I do wish the organ had more bass.
